General Information

Located five miles east of Wilbur, Oregon, on County Road 200, the North Bank Habitat Management Area offers visitors an opportunity to explore diverse habitats and learn about endangered species conservation.  The site is a former ranch now managed by the Bureau of Land Management to protect and enhance habitat for the Columbian white-tailed deer, a federally-listed endangered species, and other at risk plants and animals.  Visitors can explore four distinct habitat types here – grasslands, oak savannah, hardwood and conifer forest, and oak woodlands – and learn about habitat restoration and endangered species conservation.  The less intrusive and more natural approach to management at this site gives it a wild feel, and will open doors to science, environment and wilderness lessons.

The BLM conducts prescribed burns on the North Bank Habitat Management area in an effort to maintain habitat for the Columbian White-tailed Deer and native plants. During Fall burning, the west entrances will be closed to the public.

Contact Ariel Hiller, Bureau of Land Management, for more information about visiting the site.
